You may have heard of a ministry region gathering but not sure if you can come or what it is? First, everyone is invited to come to these gatherings. Without you we miss your congregation's voice, relationship, and ideas.
These gatherings are intended to create opportunities to better get acquainted with your nearby Presbyterian brothers and sisters and unite in mission and ministry. It is expected these will be unique times of sharing your struggles and joys, building partnerships and relationships, growing through education, being encouraged through devotions, sharing resources and together working faithfully to revitalize your church, your pastor, your session, and your ministry.
In June 2012, the Presbytery approved a Strategic Plan for the Presbytery for the next five years. The Presbytery chose to move from top down leadership to a new model of ministry which encourages connection, mission, and more direction from congregations. The plan builds on the current strengths of the presbytery – congregations determined to be in ministry in their communities, volunteers who work hard to do the presbytery’s work, youth ministry, and teams committed to making a difference in the lives of people near and far.
Responding to many concerns that geography makes participation in presbytery events difficult, the plan asks presbyters (both ruling and teaching elders) to make a concerted effort to connect in regional groups. The Strategic Plan states the purpose of ministry regions are:
to share in community, fellowship, education and encouragement
to unite in mission and ministry in a closer geographical area
The Presbytery staff will support ministry regions in their work as needed/requested.
