PRESBYTERY OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS
COVENANT
FOR AN INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP

As members of the Presbyterian Church (USA) engage in worldwide
ministries we begin to recognize that Presbyterians in other countries
and cultures have a variety of gifts to offer and faith experience to
share. Given the opportunity to share these gifts and experiences, our
lives and theirs may be enriched. Being in partnership with
Presbyterians in Kenya, we will be "mutually encouraged by each other's
faith" (Romans 1:12 NRSV) and thereby strengthened in our ministries.
The Northern Plains Presbytery commits itself to a partnership with the
Chogoria Presbytery in Kenya which will provide to both parties a
variety of gifts.
1. WHAT DO WE WANT TO LEARN OR RECEIVE?
-
To expand or knowledge of what is means
to be a Christian/Presbyterian in another land/culture.
-
To increase our understanding of
lifestyles in another culture that may differ significantly from our
own.
-
To understand how, in light of our
differences, our faith make us one.
-
To gain a better appreciation for the
zeal for evangelism demonstrated in other parts of the globe.
-
To break down stereotypes/prejudices -
our and theirs.
-
To gain a better understanding how the
actions of the US government impact other countries.
-
To make mission come alive in human and
personal stories.
2. WHAT GIFTS DO WE HAVE TO SHARE?
-
Regular prayer support by churches and
individuals in our presbytery.
-
Resources, skills and expertise as may
from time to time be needed/requested by partner presbytery.
-
Hosting exchange visits, assisting in
travel arrangements and cultural experiences in the Presbytery for
visitors.
-
limited financial support for some
special mission needs.
3. WHAT KINDS OF ACTIVITIES WOULD BE WANT TO ENGAGE IN WITH THE
PARTNER?
-
Exchange of ideas and information
through letter, photographs, newsletters, music and prayer request.
-
Observing special time of remembrance
and prayer in churches.
-
Exchange of pastors/lay people for the
better understanding of each other.
-
Exchange of skilled/technical people who
could meet specific needs.
-
Exchange of youth groups-opportunity for
young people to experience another culture.
-
To establish sister churches.
