Drought Devastating Western Dakotas

Other Disaster Sites that include Drought

The extended drought plaguing huge sections of western North and South Dakota is bringing many farm and ranch families to the brink of financial and emotional disaster.

All across the Dakotas crops have been devastated by drought. Ranchers are selling off herds of cattle because they won’t be able to feed them this winter. Other cattle herds have fallen victim to heat-related illness and illness resulting from bad water. Hundreds of miles of fence have come down as a result of wildfires.

There are many needs developing as a result of this prolonged drought. The greatest need is for earnest prayer – prayer for families affected by the drought, prayer for relief from the drought, prayer for resources to combat the drought.

The Presbytery is also building a data base of people who are willing to help combat this crisis and what particular gifts and services they are able to offer. Contact Laurie Elhard, Communication Coordinator and she will enter what you are able to offer to the data base.

North Dakota Agricultural Mediation Service

The North Dakota Agricultural Mediation Service (AMS) was established in 1984 to help financially distressed farmers and ranchers. AMS negotiators are trained to provide farmers with one-on-one assistance in credit and financial matters and resolving disputes.

AMS annually provides mediation and negotiation services, counseling and other assistance to several hundred farmers on a broad range of subjects, including:

  • Finances
  • Beginning farmer loan applications
  • Farm planning
  • Farm production practices
  • Seed disputes
  • Disputes with federal and state agencies

The North Dakota Agricultural Mediation Service is a division of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, and is headquartered in the State Capitol in Bismarck. AMS policies are established by the North Dakota Credit Review Board.

Letters of Support

I am saddened by the news about the drought. This teaches  me that any kind of calamity can occur in any part of the world and the need for us to support one another in prayer for God  to keep away calamities. I wish to pledge for a personal donation of U.S $ 80 towards this disaster. I thought I could give this to you when you come in September if it will not be too late. Please advise me if this is okay.  -   David Mbae, Headmaster of Chogoria Complex Primary School
